Educational Facility
The need to replace an inefficient and dated biology facility along with the goal to expand faculty and student enrollment, the Rockwell Integrated Science Center houses scholars teaching and conducting research in the fields of biology, environmental science, neuroscience, environmental science, and computer science. The project included biology labs, computer science labs, faculty office, classrooms and (2) greenhouses.
THE CHALLENGE
Lafayette College set a goal for the facility to reduce energy consumption by 45% below the LEED baseline. The project was designed to meet LEED Gold or better. Furthermore, the college’s Climate Action Plan has pledged to reach carbon neutrality by 2035.
THE SOLUTION
Eight Thermo Scientific Infinity filtered fume hoods utilizing Erlab’s GreenFumeHood Technology were installed in the teaching lab. The filtered fume hoods are not tethered to ductwork and provide several advantages over conventional ducted fume hoods for Marywood University’s science department:
1. Reduction of initial capital investment and engineered infrastructure
2. Erlab’s patented Neutrodine filter technology captures and retains high volumes of hazardous chemicals while returning clean air back to the lab.
3. The filters are easy to replace. The used filters are disposed of in an environmentally safe manner.

A PUBLISHED CHEMICAL LISTING
It all begins here. Without this listing, we are not compliant with AFNOR NFX 15-211. Our in-house laboratory tests, as well as independent testing, to verify the retention capacity of over 700 chemicals for our filters.
INDEPENDENT TESTING
Erlab filters have been independently tested multiple times at various concentrations guaranteeing that our safety solutions all adhere to the strict performance criteria of theAFNOR NF X 15-211:2009 standard assuring that the emission concentration at the filter exhaust will always be lower than 1% of the TLV.
