PROCESS

Reducing our environmental impact by filtering chemical vapors to retain and eliminate toxins as opposed to ventilating outdoors. Need to reduce reliance on primary ducted hoods.

“ERLAB EQUIPMENT PLAYS A VITAL ROLE IN SAFETY AND INDOOR AIR PURIFICATION

APPLICATION AREA:

Rechargeable Battery Applications

Established in 2015, Alsym™ Energy has developed an innovative low-cost, high-performance rechargeable battery chemistry that’s free of lithium and cobalt, and ideal for applications such as stationary storage, maritime shipping, and electric vehicles.

By using readily available, inherently non-flammable and non-toxic materials, Alsym is working to deliver performance comparable with lithium ion at a much lower cost—something no other technology can do.

THE CHALLENGE

As Alsym operates out of leased space we required filtering fume hoods that where flexible for lab placement purposes and where additional HVAC renovations was not practical. It was also decided that chemical vapors should not be allowed to affect their fellow tenants and they wanted to reduce their reliance on a primary ducted hood.

THE SOLUTION

Research was conducted among a few major ductless fume hood manufacturers however deciding factors to work with Erlab were based on their reputation for high-quality filtration equipment, their respect in the industry as a leader, and previous experience with Erlab products. The total buy-in price was the major consideration. Regarding ductwork downtime, complexities of installation, and the coordinaton required to install a ducted fume hood, a filtered solution was more logical and economical.

Additionally, Alsym’s safety officer had worked with Erlab products and felt their filtration capabilities and product construction were appropriate for their labs. They felt the purchased products and service surpassed their expectations
as follows:
1. Delivery was prompt, parts were all present and in good condition.
2. We didn’t ask for training (although it is offered free of charge) but the owner’s manuals were sufficient to get units into operation.
3. Customer service and follow-through has been good. We have reached out about audible alarms and received prompt
responses and phone support. We also received assistance concerning filter sizes and replacement filters.

Filtering Fume Hoods

Safer to operate
• The configurable filtering system above the enclosure can be adapted to filter gases, solvents, powders and particulates
keeping the user and the lab protected by safely and efficiently recirculating air within the room and releasing purified air
back into the room free of any toxic hazardous vapors or odors.
• Meets AFNOR NFX 15 211/ANSI Z9.5-2012 filtration efficiency standard (classes 1 and 2).
• New sensors are added for detection of solvents or acids or formaldehyde.
• New electronic anemometer monitors face velocity.
• ESP Program: Usage certification delivered with each unit after approval of your handlings or process by our in-house lab.

Captair 714 Fume Hood

Safer to operate
– Erlab’s advanced carbon filtration technology and/or HEPA/ULPA accommodates your specific needs
– Meets AFNOR NF X 15 211/ANSI Z9.5-2012 filtration efficiency standard (class 1 and 2)
– Sensors that detect filter breakthrough of solvents, acids or formaldehyde
– Safety back up filter in case of main filter saturation
– Continuous monitoring of Air face velocity
– Erlab Safety Program: application analysis and validation, usage certification, filter change reminders

Simpler to use
With Smart Technology, you can easily see that the hood is operating safely. Should the light pulse you are notified that:
– Containment has been compromised or,
– The filter has breakthrough or,
– There is a Fan failure

Flexibility
– The configurable filtration column will accommodate application changes
– No ductwork needed. This allows you to move the hood anywhere.

Savings
– No ductwork cost
– Annual energy costs decreases significantly
– Energy savings outweigh filter replacement costs.

Environment
– No dangerous chemical released into the atmosphere
– Low energy consumption

THE RESULT

“Erlab products have improved the safety of our lab by allowing us to
contain operations which may not have been conducted in hoods in the past due to severely limited hood space. The Erlab hoods have also improved staff comfort and confidence as we know that hazardous vapors are being mitigated properly and our staff doesn’t feel cramped into
inadequate fume hood space.”

Guaranteed safety

and total protection from chemical inhalation for end users

Reduced construction

and operational costs

Simple set-up

meant that the business could be fully operational in a shorter amount of time

Equipment easily fit into a converted space,

can be disassembled for any future moves or facility upgrades

ABOUT ERLAB

We provide safety, we protect your health

Erlab invented the ductless fume hood in 1968. With more than 50 years of experience in the field of chemical filtration and protection of laboratory personnel; we know the formula for safety. With Erlab, you will never have to wonder or worry if our products are safe. Our process includes 5 ingredients for all of our products, and without all of them, your health and safety will be compromised.

ERLAB R&D LABORATORY

The engineers and chemists in our state-of-the-art R&D laboratory understand molecular filtration. We are committed to designing products that are safe and of the highest quality, strive to improve our products, and continuously develop new products that provide greater protection in the laboratory.

STRICT SAFETY STANDARDS

We hold ourselves to the highest standard and adhere to the strict AFNOR NF X 15-211: 2009 filtration safety standard as endorsed by ANSI Z9.5-2012.

A PUBLISHED CHEMICAL LISTING

It all begins here. Without this listing, we are not compliant with AFNOR NFX 15-211. Our in-house laboratory tests, as well as independent testing, to verify the retention capacity of over 700 chemicals for our filters.

INDEPENDENT TESTING

Erlab filters have been independently tested multiple times at various concentrations guaranteeing that our safety solutions all adhere to the strict performance criteria of theAFNOR NF X 15-211:2009 standard assuring that the emission concentration at the filter exhaust will always be lower than 1% of the TLV.

APPLICATION QUESTIONNAIRE (VALIQUEST)

Our laboratory specialists will recommend the appropriate filtration fume hood, type of filter, and personalized advice.

CERTIFICATE OF VALIDATION FOR THE CHEMICALS USED IN THE HOOD

A certified PhD chemist issues a Certificate of Validation with a list of the chemicals approved for use in the hood.

Our Safety Program

We back up our products 100%. This program includes your specialized chemical evaluation, validation of your hood upon installation, and a filtration safety specialist at your service to ensure that your hood is operating to its full potential.
